Tamsworth Union Church
A plainspoken record of a church that has changed with the town, while keeping its place in it.
Gathered in 1849
The congregation gathered in 1849. The present building went up in 1874 on land given by the Tamsworth family, whose name it still carries.
About 1890 / Today
The early road view showed horse sheds along the road. Today, the same view has a parking lot, but the church still faces Prospect Hill.

1938 / 1940 / Today
The hurricane of 1938 took the top off the steeple. The rebuilt steeple was finished in 1940, and it still watches over the hill.

About 1900 / Today
Gas lamps once lit the sanctuary and box pews filled the room. The same pews remain, now refinished and used every Sunday.

1962 / Last winter
The fellowship hall went up in 1962. It is still a working room, most visibly on Saturday supper nights.

The 1881 bell is still rung by hand every Sunday morning at 9:55.

The east window was given in 1902 in memory of a family lost in a farmhouse fire.
“Seeing the old pictures next to the new ones made my mother cry.”
